Video Recorder under Debian Help

I am getting ready to set up Debian Lenny for a video recorder with my HDTV wonder. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where to begin....All I want is for this machine to be a backend, recording and saving videos to a Samba share that I will watch on my television through XBMC...I would prefer a command line or web based interface if it is available...I don't want to have to load X.

I haven't tread down this road yet, so anyone who would want to share their experiences would be helpful.

Thanks

I'd skip Debian (though I love it) and use Mythbuntu for this. You can just configure samba to share where myth saves the videos.
